Thursday, July 15 - Ken Lee and his troop performed a colorful "political street theatre", as a protest to the closure of Lady Minto Hospital surgery, and in support of our efforts. Click here to see the video posted on the Gulf Islands Driftwood.

THE STORY BEGINS....

In 2004, a new "state of the art" operating room was completed at Lady Minto Hospital, together with an excellent Central Supply Room to provide sterilization of instruments as required by the new standards.

This project was funded by the Capital Region District ($1.1 million), the Vancouver Island health Authority ($1 million) and, at the request of the VIHA, $780,000 from the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation.

HOW CAN WE TRUST VIHA PROMISES? THEIR ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS - RECENT CUTS TO MENTAL HEALTH/ADDICTION SERVICES AND SERVICES TO SENIORS.

At the June 14, 2010 public "Presentation" of the Salt Spring Island Health Services Review, Grant Hollett, VIHA Director, Planning and Community Engagement stated:

"In regard to residents' questioning whether suggested improvements to mental health and seniors services would ever be implemented, Hollett said VIHA has money ready to go into the review's short-term recommendations immediately."

In light of cuts VIHA has made in recent months, CAN WE TRUST THIS STATEMENT?
